The Jenway 737-501 Genova Nano life science spectrophotometer has a 198 to 1000nm wavelength, 5nm spectral bandwidth, and a xenon lamp, and uses a single-beam to measure the concentration and purity of nucleic acid and protein samples, and the density of bacterial cell cultures in research labs. The spectrophotometer measures sample volumes as low as 0.5μL, conserving samples, reducing the need for dilutions, and eliminating the need for cuvettes. The instrument has pre-programmed methods for DNA, RNA, nucleic acid concentration, and protein assay measurements, and includes measurement modes for determining the purity of nucleic acids and optical density (OD) for cell harvesting. Proteins can be quantitated by BCA, Biuret, Bradford, direct UV, and Lowry methods. Pre-programmed methods include measurement of ssDNA, dsDNA, RNA and oligonucleotide concentrations using wavelengths recorded at 260, 280 and 230nm.Absorbance and concentration measurements can be made at any of 27 user-selectable units of concentration, providing flexibility for applications. The 5nm bandwidth provides more consistent results for low-concentration samples than does 1nm. The instrument can also be used as a standard spectrophotometer with measurement modes for photometrics, concentration, multi-wavelength, spectrum scanning, quantitation, and kinetics. The xenon lamp provides accurate readings and extends lamp life. The graphical LCD display provides access to programmed tests, graphs, and test results. The instrument has a USB port to transfer data to a USB memory stick (included), a USB output port, an analog output port, and an RS-232 port.
