Details: The Scientific Industries SI-3200L Series MegaMag Genie Digital Low Range Magnetic Stirrer has a stirring speed from 50 to 300rpm to mix liquid volumes up to 38L, and a 305mm wide by 305mm deep top surface that supports containers up to 85lb. The stirrer's LED display shows the stirring speed as well as the time, which can be set at 0 for continuous operation and from 1 minute to 99 minutes for timed operation. Its heavy-duty motor powers a timing belt-driven pulley to rotate an internal rare earth magnet that couples with a stirring bar (sold separately). Stirring bars with a maximum length of 7.6cm (3") can be used and are suitable for most applications. The stirrer has an ABS and polycarbonate housing that channels spills away from internal components, and the enclosure is air-cooled to prevent heat from transferring to the liquid being mixed. Its overall size is 130 x 305 x 310mm (H x W x D; where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back), and it weighs 3 kg. This magnetic stirrer may be used in cold rooms and incubators at temperatures from 0 to 38 degrees C (32 to 100 degrees F) and humidity up to 95 percent. It has European Conformity (CE) marking, and is available in models with various voltages and plug styles. Magnetic stirrers are used by researchers, professionals, and hobbyists to stir liquids and solutions in laboratory, food and beverage, pulp and paper, and home applications. A lab stirrer mixes substances for a variety of academic, research, or industrial applications such as solutions in chemistry and biology and food and beverage production. There are two basic types of stirrers: magnetic or overhead. Magnetic stirrers are ideal for smaller volumes and low-viscosity solutions, have no moving external parts, are considered easier to clean than overhead models, and do not need lubricants which can contaminate the solution being mixed. Magnetic stirrers have a rotating magnetic field that causes a separate magnetic stir bar, when immersed in a solution, to spin and stir the solution. They usually have a plate on a base and either an internal or external controller. Some models have multiple stirring positions to stir more than one vessel at once, and in some the plate is also a hot plate for heating the solution while stirring. They can be submerged in water and used inside closed vessels or systems, such as incubators. Overhead stirrers are ideal for large volumes and high-viscosity solutions in open vessels, and usually have a stirring blade and a drive shaft typically made of stainless steel or a chemically-resistant polymer, a controller, and a motor. This type of stirrer often needs more space than a magnetic stirrer, and can be more difficult to set up and to clean afterwards. However, by changing the stirrer blade shape, they offer control over how a substance is stirred. For example, certain shapes are suitable for high-speed stirring of low viscosity substances, while other shapes are suitable for low-speed stirring of high viscosity substances. Both magnetic and overhead stirrers come in analog and digital models, and a variety of configurations and sizes. Scientific Industries manufactures laboratory equipment such as shakers and mixers, homogenizers, and incubators under the Vortex-Genie and Genie brands. The company, founded in 1954, is headquartered in Bohemia, NY.
